The amphora that came from Georgia
Four hundred litres of clay, three weeks on a truck and a winter learning how to use it.

The first qvevri arrived wrapped in straw on the back of a truck from Kakheti, with a note in a language none of us could read. It took six of us and a borrowed tractor to bury it to the shoulder. That first winter we got almost everything wrong. The second, we listened more and did less. Clay breathes more slowly than oak and gives back nothing but texture. It is the reason our Skin Contact tastes the way it does.
Thirsty after all that?
